Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient system of health care that has been in use for over 2000 years in China in order to maintain health and well-being.

It is based on the belief that we have energy or ā€œqiā€ flowing through twelve invisible channels or meridians on the body. When this energy becomes blocked, in excess or deficient, disharmonies arise causing malaise. Illness on all levels – from physiological ailments to strained emotions – are understood to be a result of an obstruction or imbalance in the flow of qi through the meridians.

Acupuncture seeks to regulate and influence the flow of qi. Fine sterilised needles are inserted at specific points along the meridians just under the skin to stimulate and harmonize the energy along the channels.

What is involved in a Treatment?

A typical treatment of acupuncture usually takes between 40 mins – 1 hour. On the initial appointment, 1 hour is standard as a health history questionnaire is taken.

During the consultation, questions from lifestyle habits to diet, emotions, stress, sleep and all system functions will be examined. Tongue and pulse reading will be assessed to further determine the health of the 12 meridians.

Usually, 6-12 needles will be inserted during treatment. The needles are sterilised and slightly thicker than a hair strand. The client may feel a slight prick upon insertion, but thereafter the treatment should be comfortable.

Treatment length varies depending on each individual. The average length for needles is 30 minutes but may be longer if some additional techniques are used such as cupping (the application of glass cups to create suction on the skin in order to relieve stagnation), moxibustion (heating of acupuncture needles with dried herb sticks to activate and warm the point), electro stimulation (provides a faint pulse to 2-4 needles to invigorate qi and relieve muscle pain for example).

Conditions Acupuncture can treat:

Sinusitis; migranes and tension headaches; addictions; quit smoking; trigeminal neuralgia; tennis elbow; sciatica; arthritis; menstrual cramps; fibromyalgia; low back pain; asthma; weight loss; infertility

COSMETC ACUPUNCTURE

Through the insertion of fine needles, cosmetic acupuncture effectively brings Qi & blood to the facial area reducing crows feet and deep wrinkles while boosting the collagen and elasticity of the skin.

In addition, the application of the Theragem (approx 10 minutes) draws the oxygen and blood to the surface of the skin eliminating toxins and renewing cells, giving a fresh glow to the skin.
